Volunteer

Are you looking for a great opportunity to share your love of maritime, history, or maritime history?  We’ve got lots of volunteer opportunities for you!

At Puget Sound Maritime we have a wide range of volunteer functions, so no matter what you like to do we can find a project that fits!  Browse the projects below to see if anything strikes your interest, then email us to find out how you can join the crew.

Our Projects:

Collections VolunteerHeritage – These projects often involve working with artifacts (doing photography and cleaning), archives (cataloging and scanning), and photographs (digitizing).  Heritage projects are best for those who have computer and database experience.

Good Fish Bad FishEducation – We love attending Free First Thursdays, festivals, and family days with our crafts and educational activities, but we need help staffing our tables.  Often this consists of answering questions about PSM, describing the activity at hand, and helping parents and children connect through our activity.  If you are a people person and like working with children and families, this is a great position for you!  You can also volunteer to be a Maritime Gallery docent at MOHAI, acting as an ambassador for PSM and interpreting the Maritime Gallery for visitors.

Research VolunteersResearch – If you like the idea of working with our collection, but prefer doing research to cataloging, we need volunteers to help answer the inquiries sent to us about historic photographs and the contents of our archives.  This is great for those who love to hunt for answers and explore our collection.

Outreach – As this is a broad category, the opportunities within it are broad.  For example, love to Tweet?  We need a Twitter volunteer!  Or, love the Sea Chest?  Volunteer to reach out to current and potential advertisers.  How about website maintenance?  Volunteer to keep our website up-to-date and exciting!

If nothing here sounds like a match, let us know what you’re interested in and we’ll find something that works for you!
